Dance Celebration

The Woobridge High School Dance Celebration will be hosted on March 1, 2008

This is a CADTD sponsored event and all rules and regulations will apply.

DIVISIONS

Officers: Any dance style or combination of styles are acceptable. Participants must be current officers of their high school team.

Dance: Overall effect must be dance in nature. Any dance style or combination of styles are acceptable unless a specific category is offered. ie: lyrical, hip hop

Lyrical: A routine where all dancers interpret the lyrics or mood(intent) of a song, using a combination of ballet and/or jazz and/or modern technique. This form includes the use of leg/torso/arm work, balance, facial and body emotion.

Military: Routine must be military in nature with emphasis on precision, straight arm sequences, military maneuvers and pattern formations.

Dance/Drill: Routine may be a combination of precision dance, straight arm sequences, military maneuvers and pattern formations. This routine must incorporate 50% dance and 50% military movements. One style should not be emphasized over the other.

Hip Hop: A routine where all dancers perform contemporary movement to street style music. Jazz style movements should be kept to a minimum. Difficulty should be emphasized through body control, isolations and rhythm.

Kick: Routine emphasis must be on kicks. Kicks should be the focal point of the routine and must be used for more than 1/2 of the total routine length.

Prop: Routine emphasis must be on teh use of a prop or props. The prop must be the focal point of the presentation and used in at least 2/3 of the routine. Neither routine nor uniform should be thematic or characteristic in nature. Standard school uniforms, dance or military clothing may be worn.

Novelty: Routine emphasis must be on characterization or be of a unique thematic nature. The routine itself must fully express the story line of the theme on its own,without relying on any prior knowledge of the theme's origin. Routine may include precision and linework, as well as dance or military moves, permitting these movements make sense within the theme. Props are permitted, but should not be the focal point of the routine. Themed costumes should be worn.

Dance/Pom:Routine emphasis must be on the use of pom pon. Teams must use 2 pompons for at least half of the routine.

Co-Ed: This team must consist of at least 3 males and 3 females. Routine may be of any dance style or combination of styles. Emphasis is on partnering.

Individual Solos: All contestants must perform a solo dance routine 1.5-2.0 minutes in length; entrance up to 15 seconds and exit up to 15 seconds. Props are sllowed but should not be used for more than 1/2 of the routine. Timing will begin at the first note of music. Penalties will be incurred for any soloist that goes over the time limit. There are no routine requirements.
