Minutes-October 5, 2004


1. Call to Order by President Lynne Bolen at 7:10. Welcome, and introductions.


2. Minutes of Sept. 7, 2004 meeting not available for this meeting.


3. UCI Fundraiser by Genevieve Fridlund Dunton. Presented opportunity for parents of Entertainment Corps students to participate in a UCI study. $15.00 would go to our program for each parent, friend or family member who participates. Criteria for participants: 1) 35-65 years old, 2) English proficient, 3) Free of physical limitations or disabilities. Survey is confidential. Subject of study is to survey adults regarding their motivations and behaviors. (Surveys could possibly be filled out at mandatory parent mtg. on 11/2/04 regarding the Las Vegas Trip). Nancy Robertson moved to approve the UCI Fundraiser. Seconded by Mary Helen Frake-Minar. Motion passed.


4. Treasurer’s Report by Jim Leaming. Presented Balance Sheets for WHS Music Boosters, dated 9/30/04 and 10/5/04. Budget is still being worked on. Scrip will be listed as an inventory-asset account. Color Guard added a Tupperware fundraiser. Profit was $500. Mike Pickett moved to arrange for maintenance to be done on the ATV used to transport equipment at Entertainment Corps performances. Seconded by Nancy Robertson. Motion passed. Nancy Robertson moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented. Seconded by Tina Bernhardt. Motion passed.


5. Band Director’s Report by Joslynne Blasdel. Stated that Entertainment Corps did a good job at their first field tournament (Kennedy HS Field Tournament,10/2). IIFT coming up on 10/23. Planning is going well. 12 schools participating so far, with more on the way. Start time will probably be at 5:00. WHS performs at end of show. Performance will be judged, which provides good feedback for the students. 10/30: Glen A. Wilson HS Field Tournament in Hacienda Heights.

11/2: Parent and student mtg. for Las Vegas Trip. Itinerary, rules, and room assignments will be handed out.

11/5-11/7: Las Vegas Trip. Will leave at 10am on 11/5.

11/9: Booster mtg.

11/10: IUSD Band Spectacular

11/11: Home Football Game vs. Newport Harbor

11/13: Capo Valley HS Field Tournament


This week is Homecoming Week. At Homecoming Game, Entertainment Corps will play different music during the half-time show, will perform their regular show at the end of the game. Monday, 10/11 is Late Start, no 0 period. 10/16: Saturday Rehearsal. Cookie Fundraiser was started today. Students are required to sell 5 boxes each. Orders due 10/19. Pick up is 10/28 after school. 10/22: Home Football Game vs. IrvineHS. 10/29: First critique due. 11/1: Portfolios due. Eleven new band uniforms will be ordered for next yr. New hats need to be purchased for drum line. Parent donations may be solicited when cost estimate comes in.

6. President’s Report by Lynne Bolen. Baja Fresh night is 10/7. Baja Fresh chair is Penny Leon. (Ms. Blasdel stated that the section having the highest percentage of participants will not have to work a job at the next event. Students are reminded to write their section on the receipt and turn it in at school). Pizza Party fundraiser at Pizza Hut after football game was a success. Earned $168. Alan Papurt is the new chair for the truck driver committee. Parent volunteers are generally needed for this committee.

7. Officer’s Reports

VP Band: Wendy Arraki. Thanks to the Gardner and Rhoads families for construction of new pit equipment.

VP Communications: Debbie Gardner. Let her know if you are not receiving E-mails.

VP Membership: Kim Merkt. Absent.

VP Color Guard: Nancy Robertson. Show is coming along well.

VP Dance: Heidi Walker. Students enjoyed having an awesome guest teacher. They are working on a pep rally dance.

VP Orchestra: Christine Chon. Getting ideas and making plans.

Publicity: Maury Davis. Practice record form is on the website.

Scrip:Judy Goetz. Students earn credit for Scrip purchases. $241.35 in student credits were earned in the month of Sept.

Historian: Kim Leaming. End-of-Year DVD is now ready. Parents are encouraged to submit videos and photos for this year. There is an extra video camera available for parent use at events.


7. Committee Chair Reports

Bingo: Nancy Robertson. Students may volunteer to work on set-up.

IIFT: Lynne Bolen. Key Volunteers will meet following the Booster mtg.
